Active Learning Assembly

Brookside’s fifth and sixth graders attended their first active learner assembly presented by Mrs. Beckert. She taught the students that active learners are determined and self-aware.  The students learned that being determined means that they are doing what needs to be done even when you don’t feel like doing it. They also learned that being self-aware doesn’t mean that we never make mistakes, but it’s the ability to learn from our mistakes and correct them.  Mrs. Beckert taught the kids to give themselves positive self-talk, be proactive in their learning, find solutions to problems and never give up. Mrs. Beckert will meet with the other grades later this month.

Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone that helped with the School Board Presentation last night. The student choir did a fabulous job! It was a great celebration of the wonderful things happening at Brookside.

Here are just a couple of reminders for the upcoming week:

  • School pictures are tomorrow, Friday September 14th. We appreciate the PTA’s help getting the students ready and lined up.

  • Monday, September 17th, is a district development day. Students will be dismissed at noon and there will be no afternoon kindergarten. Please contact the office if you have any questions. Thank you!

  • If you need to get a message to your student at the end of the day, please call before 3:00 pm. We are getting an over abundance of calls the last 10 minutes of the day and it is difficult to communicate so many messages to the students. We will do the best we can, but we can’t guarantee the message will get to your student if you call after 3:00.  Thank you for helping us with this situation.

Thanks again for all your support!

Dana Beckert, Principal

Our Counselor, Ms. Andria Beckham

We have a new counselor this year, Ms. Beckham.  Each month, Ms. Beckham goes into each classroom to teach a lesson to the students.  For her first lesson, she came in and introduced herself to the students. then, she introduced her lesson, “Let’s Tacobout It.”  She shared with students different topics that she would be talking about, like friendship, emotions and stress while building a taco. We are excited to have Ms. Beckham at our school.

Nebo Schools Celebrate National School Lunch Week

“Lots 2 Love”

Springville, UT – September 12, 2018 – To recognize the National School Lunch Program and the 30 million children it serves every day, Brookside school will recognize National School Lunch Week from October 8-12, 2018. The theme, “Lots 2 Love,” encourages students and school nutrition professionals across the country to share what they love most about school lunch programs.

National School Lunch Week will emphasize the healthy foods that are offered daily at Nebo schools.

“School lunches are healthier than ever, with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium,” said [Director name, title]. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the benefits of our lunch program, and the appealing choices we offer."

The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students every day. The program, which has been serving the nation’s children for more than 70 years, requires school meals to meet federal nutrition standards like offering fruits and vegetables every day, serving whole grain-rich foods, and limiting fat, calories, and sodium.

The “Lots 2 Love” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association. Parents and students can follow the fun using the hashtags #NSLW18, #SchoolLunch, and #Lots2Love. For more information on National School Lunch Week, visit https://schoolnutrition.org/nslw/

Please feel free to download this artwork so your student can participate in the art contest during the National School Lunch Week October 8th - 12th. Also, some parents pack love notes into their kids' bagged lunches. If your student eat's school lunch, feel free to send in a note to your student and we will deliver it to them that week. Please find the link below for various available activities.

Know how to make handwriting fun?  Have Alphy come.  Meet our sock puppet named Alphy, short for alphabet, that comes out to help Mrs Jorgensen's  2nd grade class learn how to make our letters right.   He also walks around looking for good posture, correct pencil holding, and best looking letters.

Dear Parents,

We are at the close of another wonderful school week. Students have been working diligently learning procedures, expectations, and new curriculum. I am so proud of their perseverance and hard work. Here are just a few reminders as we head into next week:

  • The PTA is selling spirit t-shirts. I have attached the information to this email. If you would like to purchase a t-shirt, you can send the money with your student to the office and we will make sure it gets to the PTA.

  • Thank you to the students who are singing in the choir performing at the school board meeting on Wednesday. Mrs. Evans sent home information about the performance after their Wednesday practice on the 5th. If your student is a member of that choir and you have any questions, please contact the office. Thank you!

  • Students are welcome to come to school each day after 8:15 am. We have had students arriving earlier and we cannot provide supervision for them. At 8:15, they are welcome to go into the computer lab and work on schoolwork or they can sit quietly in the foyer. At 8:30 they will be allowed to head to their classrooms and to eat breakfast. Thank you for your help.

  • Next Friday is our picture day. Students brought home the picture information this week in preparation for their pictures on Friday. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
