Active Learning Assembly

Submitted by susan.bird on

Brookside’s fifth and sixth graders attended their first active learner assembly presented by Mrs. Beckert. She taught the students that active learners are determined and self-aware.  The students learned that being determined means that they are doing what needs to be done even when you don’t feel like doing it. They also learned that being self-aware doesn’t mean that we never make mistakes, but it’s the ability to learn from our mistakes and correct them.  Mrs.

Our Counselor, Ms. Andria Beckham

We have a new counselor this year, Ms. Beckham.  Each month, Ms. Beckham goes into each classroom to teach a lesson to the students.  For her first lesson, she came in and introduced herself to the students. then, she introduced her lesson, “Let’s Tacobout It.”  She shared with students different topics that she would be talking about, like friendship, emotions and stress while building a taco. We are excited to have Ms. Beckham at our school.

Know how to make handwriting fun?  Have Alphy come.  Meet our sock puppet named Alphy, short for alphabet, that comes out to help Mrs Jorgensen's  2nd grade class learn how to make our letters right.   He also walks around looking for good posture, correct pencil holding, and best looking letters.

Dear Parents,

We are at the close of another wonderful school week. Students have been working diligently learning procedures, expectations, and new curriculum. I am so proud of their perseverance and hard work. Here are just a few reminders as we head into next week:

  • The PTA is selling spirit t-shirts. I have attached the information to this email. If you would like to purchase a t-shirt, you can send the money with your student to the office and we will make sure it gets to the PTA.
