Dear Parents,

We will be having our Box Tops Drive beginning on January 15th and ending on January 30th. Here is some important information about the drive from our PTA:

  • Clip unexpired box tops and submit to your teacher.

  • Or use the Box Tops for Education app on your smartphone to submit the new digital box tops. See more details on the attached flyer.

Opinion Writing in Fifth Grade

Submitted by susan.bird on

Students in Miss Whites class are focusing on opinion writing. They learned the difference between facts and opinions, read an article about unique Oreo flavors, taste tested different flavors of Oreos, and wrote about which flavor was their favorite and why. Yum!

Box Tops for Education

Submitted by susan.bird on

We will be having a boxtop compition from January 15 - January 31.  Things are changing with boxtops.  Mrs. Beckert sent out an email early with a letter addressing the changes.  Also, a flyer was sent home with your students about the changes.  Please help us by scanning your receipts and sending in ALL your boxtops (this is the last year they will be accepting physical boxtops, so go through your cupboards and cut the all out!)

Here is the letter that Mrs. Beckert sent out earlier this week.

Way to go students, we are watching and catching many Brookside Tiger students doing helpful and kind things everyday. Keep it up students.

Ornaments for Mrs. Miner

Submitted by susan.bird on

For more than 20 years, Mrs. Marge Miner gave the gift of love at Christmastime (and always) to each student at Brookside.  She would spend her personal time, outside of school, making a small Christmas gift to give to every student. Students remember her knitted stockings, candy sleighs, felt Santas, reindeer with a red Tootsie Roll Pop nose, and bells.  One year she gave all the students a Santa hat. The students would all line up and file by Mrs. Miner to get this Christmas gift from her. But it was always more than just a present, Mrs.

Outstanding Employee - Mrs. Lamb

Submitted by susan.bird on

Mrs. Sandra Lamb, one of fabulous technicians was given the Outstand Employee award  this week. Mrs. Lamb works in Skill Building and works with kids every single day. Mrs. Lamb is a valuable part of our staff, helping students and teachers with anything you ask to support us here at school. She does an amazing job and doesn’t complain.  She works so well with students. She took on a group of 6th grade boys that needed a little more supervision last year without complaint. Who knows how many times she’s been in her room with a kid throwing a tantrum.

It’s Teacher Tuesday and we are spotlighting Mrs. LeAnn Andrews.  Mrs. Andrews teaches fourth grade and does an amazing job. She loves the kids that she teaches and works endlessly to make sure that they do their best.  We are so lucky to have Mrs. Andrews here at Brookside.

What do you love to do on the weekend?

STEM Project

Submitted by susan.bird on

In fifth grade today, Miss Bird's class was givent he challenge to build the tallest snowman.  The student had about 15 minutes and could use only paper an glue.  The students worked had and in the end, some panicked to finish in time.  In the end, we had two snowmen and four piles of paper.  Some of their strategies, use lots of paper, use lots of glue and stablize it by using paper to support the snowman.  This project was fun with a lot of laughter.
