Symbols of America

Submitted by susan.bird on

In Social Studies, the fifth graders have been learning about the Constitution and the symbols of America.  We decided to combine the two and create an art project. With the help from our GAINS art specialist, Mrs. Christine Palmer, we took a copy of the Constitution and drew a symbol as a background.  Some of the symbols that we talked about were the Statue of Liberty, the American Flag, Uncle Sam, the Bald Eagle, and the Liberty Bell. The student sketched out the symbol of their choice then they used a sharpie to outline their shape.  Finally, students colored their pictures using colored pencils. This was a fun Art/Social Studies project that the students enjoyed completing.
