Teacher Tuesday - Ms. Harmon

Submitted by susan.bird on

Ms. Harmon is also new to Brookside.  She is our new second grade teacher. Ms. Harmon is from Mapleton, Utah, but lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for ten years prior to that. She went to, and graduated from, American Leadership Academy in Spanish Fork. She was born on April 2 and is the second oldest out of four children in her family. She grew up loving music and sports as her mom was always very involved in singing, and her dad and older brother spent most of their time on the wrestling mat towing them all around to wrestling tournaments around the state. She is a second-semester senior at Utah Valley University and this is her internship year teaching. Here are some things to get to know Ms. Harmon.

On the weekends, Ms Harmon loves to spend time with her friends and family.  She also likes to workout, read and watch movies.

What fictional character would you have lunch with?  Ron Weasley!

Who was your favorite teacher?  Why?  Mr. Becker my high school English teacher! He really cared about making the lessons and what he taught us meaningful and impactful. We had some of the best discussions in his class.

If you were given $1000, what would you buy? Knowing myself I'd put it in savings, buuuuuut if I want to be fun probably clothes or a couple nights at a nice hotel in Park City!

What song would you sing at Karaoke night?  Probably "If I don't have you" by Whitney Houston or "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice

Who inspires you?  My mom inspires me the most out of anyone I know. She has always been such a rock in my life. I have never met anyone stronger, braver, funnier, or wiser than she is. I hope I can be half the mom and half the person she is one day.

Share a memory or two of school:

  • I remember performing in the school talent show in the first grade. I sang "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" and I had a little blue raincoat and a blue umbrella to match.
  • In high school, in my Honors Literature class, I remember being asked to write about a moment that changed us forever. That assignment was so impactful to me and honestly really therapeutic.

What is your favorite thing to teach every year? This is my first year, but so far I'm really loving math!

What is the best thing about your job?  Laughing with my kiddos everyday! I love to see them smile!
