Brookside Student's Let The Firefighters Know We Care With Letters and Cards

Submitted by liz.porter on

Brookside students have been busy writing sincere letters and notes, drawing pictures and expressing their appreciation for all the hard work put in by the many firefighters that have been working so hard on the Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fires. They have done all they can to save our mountains, homes, animals, and possessions and we are grateful and appreciative. We are not alone either, many schools throughout Nebo school district have also done this because it has affected everyone within Nebo School District.

Chinese Civilizations

Submitted by susan.bird on

For the last two weeks, we have been learning about Chinese Civilization in our classroom. We learned about the dynamic geography of China and how that affected the way people lived anciently as well as how it led to the Silk Road. Three major philosophies were studied; Confucianism, Taoism, and Legalism along with their impact on the different dynasties. Four major dynasties were studied; Shang, Zhou, Qin, and Han and we learned about their leaders and contributions to the modern world.

Who Is This New Teacher?

Submitted by liz.porter on
I grew up in Bountiful, Utah and graduated from Bountiful High School. I have two older sisters who are both married, and have 2 nephews and 1 niece that I love more than anything. I have a younger brother and a younger sister as well. I played sports growing up along with my older sisters, and played softball at UVU for two years. I love to play and watch sports, watch movies, be outside, play with my niece and nephews, read, go to Disneyland, and all things Harry Potter. Chocolate ice cream and M&M's are my two favorite foods.

Active Learning Assembly

Submitted by susan.bird on

Brookside’s fifth and sixth graders attended their first active learner assembly presented by Mrs. Beckert. She taught the students that active learners are determined and self-aware.  The students learned that being determined means that they are doing what needs to be done even when you don’t feel like doing it. They also learned that being self-aware doesn’t mean that we never make mistakes, but it’s the ability to learn from our mistakes and correct them.  Mrs.

Our Counselor, Ms. Beckham

Submitted by susan.bird on

Our Counselor, Ms. Andria Beckham

We have a new counselor this year, Ms. Beckham.  Each month, Ms. Beckham goes into each classroom to teach a lesson to the students.  For her first lesson, she came in and introduced herself to the students. then, she introduced her lesson, “Let’s Tacobout It.”  She shared with students different topics that she would be talking about, like friendship, emotions and stress while building a taco. We are excited to have Ms. Beckham at our school.
