Ms Mary Jenn Bradford

We are so lucky to have a fantastic teacher finish her career at Brookside.  Ms. Mary Jenn Bradford is an amazing teacher.  Every one of her students love her and you often see them running up to her to tell her about their night or some little bit of news. As a colleague, you couldn’t ask for someone better. She will make you laugh, share the trials that come with teaching and help you to become a better teacher.  She is amazing and we will miss her.  Congratulations Mary Jenn on your retirement!

How long have you bee teaching and what grades? “I have taught 36 years. I’ve taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. I’ve taught most of my career in 3rd and 4th grade (my favorite grades).”

What is your favorite thing about teaching? “My favorite thing about teaching is watching a child’s eyes light up the moment they learn how to do something that was initially very hard.”

What will you miss the most? “The things I’ll miss the most are; doing art projects with my class, celebrating the holidays with my class, and I’ll miss doing the arcade at the end of the school year.”

Do you have a most memorable moment as a teacher? “A moment I’ll never forget, as a teacher, was the day a snake slithered out from the inside of an unsuspecting student’s desk.”

What advice would you give to a new teacher? “My advice for new teachers is to see each student as a human being, to laugh every day with your class, and keep your sense of humor.”

What do you plan to do now that you are retired? “I’m going on a cruise to celebrate my retirement, and then spending as much time as I can with my grandkids (oh, and I’ll be shopping a lot on Amazon).”
