At the student council conference last week we heard from many amazing speakers. They taught us a lot of great things that we want to bring back here to Brookside. A few of those things were to be kind to others, stand up for people who are being bullied, and to not judge a book by its cover.
First, we must all be kind to others. You can be kind in many different ways. Say “Hello!” to someone you don’t know. Smile at someone - it will make them want to smile too! Compliment someone. They will remember your compliment for a long time and it will make them happy. You can live on a good compliment for two months! Invite others to do things with you. If you see someone who is looking left out - ask them to join you! It never hurts to ask!
Second, stand up for others who are being bullied. It is never ok to bully or tease others. When you take courage and stand up for other people, you are doing what's right and could change someone's life. Open your eyes and look for people you can help. You might not win every race, but you can always win at being nice!
Third, do not rush to judge others. You have probably heard the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Well don’t rush to judge someone because of how they look. Try and get to know them and see who they really are before you judge them.
We can all do our part to make Brookside a better place. Each one of us can be the nice kid and smile, compliment, or invite others. We as a Student Council challenge each student to do those three things this year as much as they can. Thanks and have a great year! Go Brookside Tigers!
