This year Brookside Elementary wanted the focus of their student council to be on true leadership. The sixth grade students were able to pick up an application to apply for this position. They were required to fill out and return the application, provide a teacher recommendation form, and write a short essay on what makes a good leader, what qualities they have that make them a good leader, and activities that would like to see our school do. Of the more than 40 applicants, the student council board narrowed them down to 24 based on their anonymous essays. Those 24 students were then professionally interviewed by the 4 member board committee. The students were given a score based on things such as mannerisms, professional appearance, responses to the questions, and ideas they had for the school. The scores were tight and every single student did amazing in their interview. After lots of discussion and weighing everything, the board selected 10 students to represent our school as the student council or leaders of the year. They are Sadie Crandall, Kate Peterson, Ellie Esplin, Madelyn Maccabee, Ginny Peterson, Julia Oberg, Georgia Wilde, Caroline Simpson, Abbie Burris, and Lindzee Lugo.
