Brandon Mull Assembly

Submitted by susan.bird on

We were excited to welcome author Brandon Mull on Wednesday, November 20. He has written several books including Fablehaven, Spirit Animals, Five Kingdoms, the Beyonders and his newest series Dragonwatch. He shared stories and experiences about his writing experiences.

He started by playing The Imagination Game. He had three volunteers come up and helped him come up with a situation and helped create a story. He said, using details and description helps a reader visit some amazing places and have amazing experiences.

He said that he is a firm believer that Imagination can take you places. One way to improve your imagination is by reading a book.  Reading will help our imagination get strong. And he said that when he reads a book, it helps him feel like his is a part of the story.

Then Brandon Mull talked about creating. He said that if it weren’t for the creativity of other people we would live in a very boring world. We have a lot of people who share their creativity with the world, like painters, sculptures, directors, photographers, authors and many more. He reminded us that it takes a lot of failure to become a success. There are many ways to be creative.

Brandon Mull ended with four secrets to become a good writer.

  • Secret #1: Have lots of experiences and pay attention to those (even embarrassing ones).
  • Secret #2: Exercise your imagination and create stories.
  • Secret #3: READ A LOT. Read every day.
  • Secret #4: Write your stories and share them with others

It was an awesome assembly and we are so grateful to have been able to listen and learn from Mr. Brandon Mull.  We are also grateful that he took the time to sign some autographs!
