Our friend this Friday is our school counselor, Ms. Andria Beckham. This is her second here at Brookside. She teaches lessons to every class, talks with students, cares about everyone and promotes kindness. We love our counselor.
On the weekend, Mrs. Beckham loves to do anything outdoors! Hiking to a waterfall or camping or finding some sort of body of water to jump into. Outdoors is Her happy place and helps Her to be a better mother and counselor.
If she could have lunch with any fictional character, it would be Hermione Granger.
Mrs. Beckham’s favorite teacher is Mrs. Field in 6th-8th grades. “She was my teacher for many subjects-Social Studies, Choir and my favorite-Drama! She always encouraged me and challenged me to work harder and do things that scared me! She also made learning fun. I'm still friends with her on Facebook today!”
If you were given $1000 - what would you buy? “Plane tickets for me and my kids to go to somewhere we've never been!”
What song would you sing at Karaoke night? Waterfalls by TLC
Who or what inspires you? “My grandmother was the most optimistic happy person I knew. She saw life through rose colored glasses, and never got too upset or worked up about anything. I strive to enjoy life and relax like she did during her life.”
Share a memory or two of school: “On the first day of school in 5th grade we had a "show and tell" day. My dad brought our pet snake for my show and tell, and we even fed him a mouse and let everyone watch. People referred to me as the ‘snalk.’”
What is your favorite thing to teach every year? “I love to teach kids about meditation and mindfulness. It's amazing to see how relaxed and happy it makes the students. They're not used to slowing down like that, especially in school. I hope to incorporate it into more of my classroom lessons this year!”
What is the best thing about your job? “I love to get to know all my students and all their unique personalities! I also love that I get to have fun with students, be a little silly with them, and hopefully teach them a few things! I really do have the best job.”
