Submitted by susan.bird on

It’s Teacher Tuesday and we are spotlighting Mrs. LeAnn Andrews.  Mrs. Andrews teaches fourth grade and does an amazing job. She loves the kids that she teaches and works endlessly to make sure that they do their best.  We are so lucky to have Mrs. Andrews here at Brookside.

What do you love to do on the weekend?

Dear Parents,

I just wanted to remind everyone about our student-led SEP conferences this Thursday at 3:30. You are welcome to come at anytime from 3:30-5:30 and 6:00 to 7:30. Teachers will break for dinner at 5:30 so they will not be in their classrooms from 5:30-6:00. Thank you to the PTA for providing dinner that evening. It is very much appreciated!

Also, there is no school on Friday, January 10th.

Thank you!

STEM Project

Submitted by susan.bird on

In fifth grade today, Miss Bird's class was givent he challenge to build the tallest snowman.  The student had about 15 minutes and could use only paper an glue.  The students worked had and in the end, some panicked to finish in time.  In the end, we had two snowmen and four piles of paper.  Some of their strategies, use lots of paper, use lots of glue and stablize it by using paper to support the snowman.  This project was fun with a lot of laughter.

Vanessa Renteria is always walking quietly in the halls, Ariana Rees is a great helper in class. She is always finding ways to serve me and her classmates, Josie Harding is a friend to everyone, especially those who need friends, Kamryn Witney helped Mrs. Nielsen and plugged in all the ipads when they needed it.

Welcome back to school students. We are watching all the great things you are doing for others everyday. We want to recognize all our students this year. #tigerpride, #brooksidepraisenotes

Christmas Assembly

Submitted by susan.bird on

We have a tradition at Brookside every Christmas where we hold a Christmas sing-a-long.  We sing together several songs, each grade level performs a song and the teachers showed their talent on the boom whackers.  One of our favorite parts of this assembly every year is singing theTwelve Days of Christmas as a whole school. This year, we had a special treat.  Santa Claus and Mrs. Clause came to visit. We sang along with Santa and he told us a story. This is a fun tradition we all look forward to every year.

It Pays To Read

Submitted by susan.bird on

Twice a year we hold an It Pays to Read Assembly where students get to play Minute to Win it games for cash and other prizes.  All semester the students are earning tickets by reading at home. They bring back a reading calendar, then put a ticket in their class bag.  Tickets are drawn at the assembly, a wheel is spun and a game is played. At the end of each assembly, grand prizes are awarded. Good job to all the students and keep reading!
