Miss Sahlin's class loves adding to their classroom blog using the Chromebooks acquired through grants from the Nebo Education Foundation, school funds and contributions made on DonorsChoose.org.

Using Kidblog.org allows students to respond to each other and comment on one another's posts. The kids love it!!!

Fifth Grade Scientists

Submitted by amber.hobbs on

The fifth graders received a visit from the Discovery Gateway Museum on Monday, September 14, 2015.  Phill Evans came to teach the students about chemical and physical changes in an assembly called Reaction Time.  The students loved the assembly and then they even got to participate by conducting a hands on lab.  The students mixed liquids and solids to discover what combination would result in a chemical reaction.

Book Talk Tuesday

Submitted by alicia.rudd on
Hey Brookside Bookworms! If you love books and you love to talk about them as much as I do then I challenge you to read a book from my all new Principal's Library in my office. Starting next week, September 21st to be exact. Before school, students can come to my back door which is across from Mrs. Bird's class in the 3rd grade hall. But be prepared and forewarned....if you check out a book from me I expect you to write up a Book Talk that I can hang on my office wall and put your Talk here on Tuesdays. Yeah!! The book I'm reading this week is: Circus Mirandus Psst...this book is not even in our school library yet so be the first to read it (besides me, of course) If you like magic, fantasy, adventure, friendships, and love of family then this is a book you'll enjoy. My favorite quote in chapter 16 is by grandpa to Micah, "just be yourself and that's more than enough. " I'll see you next Monday from 8:30-8:55. Mrs. Rudd

BoxTops for Brookside

Submitted by alicia.rudd on
It's hip to clip! That's right! By clipping and collecting Box Tops for Education you can earn money for the school by buying products with the symbol on them. Simply clip and turn in to your child's teacher. PTA will gather them all up on Friday. The class with the most will earn a special prize.

The 2nd graders got a surprise visitor!

Submitted by amber.hobbs on

Brookside 2nd graders have been reading stories about Henry and Mudge.  Henry is a little boy and Mudge is his dog.  On Tuesday, September 8th our  2nd Graders had a very special visitor.  It wasn't Mudge, but it was a four legged friend.  Dr. Stapel brought his poodle to school.  Her name is Kista Noelle Stapel.  She is a very cute and talented dog.  She came to show off her many tricks.  Kista had a lot of fun as she showed off all of the things she can do.

Submitted by amber.hobbs on

The fifth graders were learning about the thirteen original colonies in social studies.  Students were asked to research a colony and then, together, as groups of two or three, they created a colony balloon and presented their findings to the class. They had so much fun and they turned out great!
