Mrs. Larsen’s kindergarten class celebrated Johnny Appleseed day on Friday, Sept 25th. They did some fun activities to learn more about Johnny Appleseed, his life of serving others, being kind, and planting orchards. Of course they had to make pot hats just like he wore!

Reaction Time

Our fifth graders had a visit from Reaction Time from Discovery Gateway.  This is a tradition that we look forward to every year.  This year was a little bit different because of safety guidelines and we have a new science core.  We were excited to welcome Paisleigh and Amara to Brookside.  They brought with them some fun experiments.  We learned about chemistry and what happens when substances are mixed together.  Students were able to experiment with white powders.  They mixed two together and then added water to see what reaction would happen.  When they mixed the correct two, the reaction was fizzing and bubbles.  We love to see our fifth graders get excited about learning.

Colony Pillows

In social studies, students are learning about the original 13 colonies.  We started by talking about the Lost Colonies of Roanoke and hypothesized the reason the colony was lost.  Then we tried to survive the next settlement of Jamestown and students found that it would have been extremely hard to survive in an unknown land. Finally, we moved to the colonies.  Students were given a colony and they researched information about it.  Then created a pillow to represent their colony.  These fifth graders are so creative, we love seeing what they come up with.
