We sure had a lot of praise note students this week. Lots of good things going on at Brookside Elementary!

Sophia Sadleir tried hard to get her projects completed and did her best, Renae Busby has been working hard to participate and get her work done on time, Brayden Seamons is kind to everyone around him and makes friends with anyone who need one, Thayne Stansfield thinks outside of the box to add great things to our class discussions, Kaden Torsak is a great example of being polite and kind, Deagan Rosenlof has a great positive attitude, Liliana Harding always does her best and is sensitive to how others are feeling, Zara Pinnell is working so hard in our after school group, Maxwell Kallaker is always going above and beyond with his work and assignments, Claire Oldroyd is working so hard in our reading group. She is always on task, Zadie Harper offered her marker to a student who lost theirs, Max Hall is always happy, and always working on being a talented athlete.

5th Celebrated Their 1000th Day of School

Last week, the fifth graders celebrated their 1000th day of school.  They have been in school for 1000 days, starting way back in kindergarten.  Don’t believe me?  Do the math...170 days of kindergarten, add that to 180 days in first grade, second grade, third grade and fourth grade.  Then we added the first 110 days of fifth grade.

We celebrated by each student writing down 15 memories of school making a chain that was over 1000 links long.  Each student got a blow pop to see if they could make it last for 1000 licks (it just wasn’t big enough).  Students planned a trip for $1000, wrote a letter to themselves to be opened in 1000 more school days and they created a picture with the number 1000 hidden among their artwork.  We worked together and wrote down 1000+ words that we know. We ended the day with 1000 cookies!  It was fun to celebrate an amazing achievement!

February 19, 2021

Dear Parents,

Here are a few reminders from our PTA:

This is the last week of our Yearbook presale. Through Feb 28th yearbooks are $13. On March 1st the price goes up to $15. You can pay by cash or check at the school, or on Venmo @BrooksidespringvillePTA. Please include your student's name, grade and teacher with your payment.

This week is also our PTA fundraiser. From Monday through Friday students are encouraged to read as many minutes as possible. Track your minutes on the fundraiser flyer that was sent home last week.

Have family and friends to pledge money for you to do your very best reading. They can either pledge a flat donation (example: $25) or you could ask them to pledge based on the number of minutes you read (example: 25¢ per minute read). Collect the donations and turn them in on Monday March 1st with the form below. If they prefer to donate on Venmo @BrooksidespringvillePTA please put the student’s name, grade, and teacher so you can get credit for the donation.

There are lots of fun prizes to win, and every student is entered into the random drawing for some of the prizes. Other prizes will be awarded to top readers in each grade and class, and the top earner overall.

Our 2020 fundraiser was cancelled due to COVID-19, so this is the only opportunity for Brookside PTA to raise funds for next year. All money goes directly to Brookside PTA to be used for school activities and programs like Ribbon Week, Field Day, No Screen Week, Teacher Appreciation, and much more! Donations are tax deductible. Please contact Rachel Cardenas at brooksidepta.president@gmail.com or 801-830-9826 if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support and have a great weekend!

Mrs. Julie Karren is one of our wonderful technicians who work with our first and second graders in their LLI groups.  She helps these students with reading skills and comprehension and so much more. Welcome to the Brookside family!

On the weekend, Mrs. Karren loves spending time with my family and sleeping past 7am!

Who was your favorite teacher and why? Miss Brogdan in Kindergarten, so SWEET and very kind!

If  you were given $1000 - what would you buy? “Maybe a TV upgrade? We often like to watch DVDS as a family when we are home.”

What song would you sing at Karaoke night? Greatest Showman sound track

Who or what inspires you? “My Mom. She helped my Dad win the fight against cancer in her 70's and won that same fight herself just over a year ago!”

Share a memory of school:

  • I grew up in Pennsylvania, so there were LOTS of bitter cold, snowy days waiting at the bus stop a quarter of the way from my house. My two older brothers and I would always wonder if the bus would make it or not.

What is your favorite thing to teach every year? “Be a friend. You never know if your smile is the only one another person might get to see all day!”

What is the best thing about your job? “I have to pick just ONE?! My LLI students - so smart and helpful!”’
