Teacher Tuesday - Miss White

Submitted by susan.bird on

It’s teacher Tuesday and we are spotlighting Miss Kelly White.  Miss White is one of our great fifth grade teachers. She moved from third grade to teach fifth grade this year.  She is creative, fun, understanding and an excellent teacher. We love having Miss White at Brookside.

On the weekend, Miss White loves to read, relax, or watch a movie.

If she could have lunch with any fictional character, she would choose  to eat with Rubeus Hagrid.

Who is your favorite teacher and why? Mrs. Eddington in 3rd Grade. She was so kind and patient and had a way of making her students feel loved, valued, and important. She encouraged my love for reading and introduced me to Shel Silverstein and Ramona Quimby. Sometimes we would go outside and play a game called Hobbits and Trolls. I wish I could remember how to play! I only remember having fun haha!

If Miss White was given $1000, she would buy A plane ticket to Hawaii!

What song would you sing at Karaoke night? Hey Jude - The Beatles

Who or what inspires you? Tim Ballard - An incredible historian and author and the founder of O.U.R.

Share a memory or three of school:

  •  In fifth grade we were learning about changes in matter in science and my teacher, Mrs. Short, filled a giant tub with cornstarch, water, and green dye and mixed it all together to make "slime". We all took turns standing on a stool in front of the tub and got to stand in and on top of the gooey substance! I have never forgotten that activity and I remember thinking it was so much fun.
  • My best friend Miko and I would write stories all the time together. We made up a story called The Sloppy Boppy Girls. It was about two best friends that were always chewing bubblegum, riding their scooters, and going on adventures. We would also make little paper mailboxes and tape them to our desks and write notes to each other. We had tiny bunny figurines that we kept on the corner of our desks - they were our "class pets".
  • I wore my pants backwards to school one day in first grade. (Not on purpose!)

What is your favorite thing to teach every year? American History and Science

What is the best thing about your job? My students!

Favorites:

  • Pizza: Hawaiian (unpopular opinion)
  • book/author: So hard to choose! One of my favorites is The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale.
  • Ice cream: BYU Rocky Road
  • Sport: Football
  • Color: Blue
  • Snack: Popcorn
  • Zoo Animal: Elephant
  • Recess game:  Beanie Babies
