Learning to be a Curator

Submitted by susan.bird on

Mrs. Till from teh Springville Museum of Art visited our school today and talked about being a curator.  She taught that a curator puts together displays for the museum.  She related it writing essays.  You have to have a main idea and supporting details.  She demonstrated with pictures she picked out and had the students come up with ideas for the main idea and then the kids worked together to become curators.  Thank you Springville Museum of Art for sharing your knowledge with us.

It's Testing Time

Submitted by susan.bird on

It's that time of year again, end of the year RISE testing.  The testing window is now open and runs through May.  Please be consider of this and check with your student's teacher for specific days and times of testing.  If you know that your student is going to miss a day, let their teacher know.  We have to get all students tested and it helps to make up tests when we know that kids are going to be gone.

Camp Floyd

Submitted by susan.bird on

The fifth graders traveled to Camp Floyd today to learn more about the Civil War.  They learned the story of Johnston's army then they got to tour a museum and look for a 150 year old potato and tour the Stage Coach Inn.  They got to try their hand riding for the Pony Express, making adobe bricks, candle making and shooting muskets.  It was windy and cold, but the students loved every minute!

Cloud Dancing

Mrs. Andrews class had a guest teacher come to class. She reviewed with us the basic cloud types. Then we took turns dancing the different clouds. She brought fabric and quilt batting to give us inspiration.

Exploration

Submitted by susan.bird on

Mrs. Jorgensen’s class experimented to answer this question:  because of gravity, do heavier objects fall faster? Later in the week, they talked about measurement.  They spent time measuring how tall some animals are in inches feet and yards. Then, the students made meter sticks and measuring in meters and centimeters.

Submitted by liz.porter on

Dominick Mortensen works hard and is nice to other people, Molly Saybolt is helping our new student with his assignment, Lillie Austin is always positivie and kind to those around her. She works really hard especially when she doesn't understand the first time, and Derek Huerta is a good student who is willing to admit his mistakes. He is honest with others and himself and always strives to do and be better.

Thank you to Costa Vida for the free kid meal awards. #tigerpride
