It’s Teacher Tuesday and this week we are highlighting an amazing second grade teacher, Mrs. Becky Jorgensen.  Mrs. Jorgensen is amazing with her second graders. You can tell, just by walking in the room how much she loves them.  She works endlessly to make sure she has the best lessons for her students. We are so lucky to have Mrs. Jorgensen at Brookside Elementary.

What do you love to do on the weekend: boat, cross country ski, ride bikes, time with family, nap.

Who was your favorite teacher?  Why? My son's teacher - Mrs. Chatterly because she cared about my son.

Who or what inspires you? People who don't sit back, instead they get up and do something about it.

What is your favorite thing to teach every year? Reading Strategies, read alouds, music, dance, math, science, ok just about everything

What is the best thing about your job? The Kids, challenges of constructing a good lesson and reaching all the kids.

The entire second grade has completed informational reports on the Mayflower for the month of November. In these reports, the students wrote about the items the Pilgrims brought onto the Mayflower for their journey. The students also created their own pilgrim faces using paper plates and construction paper. It has made the second grade hall come to life and our students learned so much about what the Pilgrims' lives were like as they traveled to America on the Mayflower.

Miss Harmon's Second grade class created a class thankful list. We got the idea from reading one of the books from our favorite series: Junie B. Jones. In Junie B. Jones: Turkeys we have loved and eaten (and other thankful stuff), Junie B.'s class made a class thankful list so we decided we needed to make one of our own too.

Over the last couple weeks, the first graders have been learning about bugs and insects. Today they had a special guest, Mike Whiting, who’s an entomologist come and visit. He brought his beetle and butterfly collection! The kids loved it and were so excited about every bug he had to show. Thank you Mike!!

Miss Susie Bird

Our friend this week is Mr. Randall Jex.  He is our head custodian. He helps to keep our school neat and clean.  He loves the kiddos and it’s fun to see him interact with all the students.  Thanks, Mr. Jex for making the school the best it can be!

Who was your favorite teacher?  Why? Mr. Dart. I was the shortest kid in my class, but Mr. Dart told me I was the best student. to be patient and that I would grow a few more feet. That gave me confidence to achieve anything in my way. But I only made it to 5'7. BAHAHAH.

If you had a $1000 - what would you buy? Nothing. Put it into savings.

What song would you sing at Karaoke night? Ring of Fire/ Johnny Cash

Who or what inspires you? The older generation, my parents, grandparents. Because they were hard working people, and set a good example, and taught me valuable lessons that I apply to my life today.

Share a memory of school: The best memories I have was being active, making friends, being on the wrestling team, football, baseball, and joining the choir. Just tried to soak it all in, because it went by fast.
