Brookside Elementary's new theme this year is being BIG. The sixth grade learned a dance to Something Big and performed it at the school assembly in a flash mob way.

Special Guests in Second Grade.

Submitted by amber.hobbs on

Mrs. Stapel's class had two very special visitors. Dr. Stapel and Kista came by to show off Kista's amazing tricks. The kids loved it. Kista knew that the students had been reading stories about a dog named Mudge and thought they might like to have a dog come to school. This also gave the students a great opportunity to learn how to write a "Friendly Letter" to say thank you!  Thanks Kista! Thanks Dr. Stapel!

Rubber Band Inventions

Submitted by amber.hobbs on

Brookside 6th graders were given a STEM task to develop "non-traditional" uses for rubber bands. They were put into collaborative groups and given time to brainstorm ideas and make a prototype. From there, they were to take and gather mathematical data and present their idea in the form of a commercial. This was an educational activity that allowed the students to think out of the box as well as show off their sense of humor! We're so proud of our 6th grade students at Brookside Elementary!

American History Talk Show

Submitted by amber.hobbs on

In Social Studies this year, the fifth graders are studying American history.  We start by researching explorers that discovered America (usually on accident).  The students researched an explorer, finding information that they could use for a talk show.  They were acted to write a script for their talk show and then they presented them for their classmates.

First Grade Beach Day

Submitted by amber.hobbs on

Our First Grade activities at Brookside are a great way to start off the year. We had Camping Day and Beach Day in the first week of school. We got to go outside, learn some songs, eat fun snacks, and play games together. It was the perfect way to get to know our teachers and classmates. We can't wait to see what is next!

Puzzle Piece Unity

Submitted by amber.hobbs on

The 6th graders got their first homework assignment at the open house. They were instructed to fill the puzzle piece with information about them. When they brought them back the following Thursday we talked about how we are all individuals, but together we make up a wonderful class. These were such a fun way to get to know each other.

Loose Change for Food

Submitted by amber.hobbs on

Mr. Anderson's and Mrs. Jorgensen's second grade classes raised money for the Food and Care Coalition by collecting loose change.  The Food and Care Coalition said for every $200 they can buy $500 worth of food.  Our classes collect $297. 32.  WOW!  That means they can buy $750 worth of food. Plus our second graders got lots of practice counting money and learned about service.  Thanks to all who donated.  We cannot wait to do this fundraiser again this school year.
