Sweet Tart Fractions

Submitted by susan.bird on

Mrs. Gulbransens’s class started practicing adding fractions on Thursday. What better way to practice on Valentine’s Day than using sweet tarts!

1000th Day of School

Submitted by susan.bird on

Did you know that the fifth graders celebrate their 1000th day of school on February 8? If you take the 180 days of first, second, third and fourth grade, 170 days of kindergarten (they start 5 days later and end 5 days earlier than the rest of the school) and add 110 days of fifth grade, you get 1000 days!  Miss Bird’s class celebrated being 1000 days smarter by doing and escape room where students had six tasks they had to complete. We all got “1000” cookies. Congrats fifth grade!

He also has good comments and questions in class, Archer Brooks is helpful and kind. He always has a smile on his face, and Chloe Brooks has worked very hard to learn 3 digit subtraction.

Valentine's Day

Submitted by susan.bird on

Have a peek inside classrooms at Brookside Elementary as they celebrated Valentine’s Day.  We had fun parties, Mrs. Kim Thompson (Mrs. Stapel grandma helper), relay races, musical hearts, Minute to Win It games, Valentine boxes, finger painting, compliment bags, cookie and candy galore and much, much more.  The students has so much fun!

Teacher Spotlight - Mrs. Mijken Hall

Submitted by susan.bird on

This is Mijken Geniece Hall known as Mrs. Hall.  She works at the special ed, obviously at Brookside and she loves Brookside so so much.  I also got the time to go ask her some questions and she is so nice and funny. If she could have any animals she would have a pug.  She loves wearing her PJs and she thinks she is pretty good at baking. I asked her why do you do what you do and she said, “These students are just as important and they deserve to learn just as everybody else.”  That is so nice.

Buddy Bench

Submitted by susan.bird on

One cool thing Brookside has that some other schools don’t is the Buddy Bench.  I think it’s cool because people who don’t have friends can make friends. The Buddy Bench also makes the people who ask them to play feel good too.  It also makes people look forward to recess. That’s one reason why Brookside is a good school.
