Special Visitor

Submitted by susan.bird on

On Friday, Miss Bird’s fifth grade had a special visitor.  Mr. Saybolt is an active member of the US Army. He came and talked to the students about what is means to serve this country.  He talked about his job, he works on the Apache Helicopter. He asked the students questions about the different branches of the military.  He even showed the kids how to do Military style push ups. Thank you so much for your sacrifice and service to this nation! We all appreciate it so much!

Division Bowling

Submitted by susan.bird on

In Mrs. Haines class yesterday, they were practicing division before they took their test. Students were split into groups and were given a division problem. The group who all solved the problem correctly were given the chance to bowl. The number of "pins" they knocked down were the number of points they received. Students were so motivated by being able to bowl that they worked together to help their team solve the problem. We're ready for our test now!

Third Grade Receives Dictionaries

Submitted by susan.bird on

The Rotary Club made its annual visit to Brookside Elementary. Every year, the Rotary Club brings free dictionaries to every student in the 3rd grade.  The dictionaries were purchased by the Rotary Club and Trapnell Orthodontics. Thanks so much for your donation to our third grade! Our students love their new dictionaries!

First Scare Game of the Year

Submitted by susan.bird on

We have been working very hard to earn our first Scare Game of the year: Heads Down, Claws Out. It was a well deserved celebration of being where we should be, doing what we are supposed to be doing when we should be doing it. Way to go 4th graders!

Wax Museum

Submitted by susan.bird on

This past Monday, November 5, the Fifth Graders presented their wax museum.  The student choose a person that has influenced America in some way.  They read a biography, took notes, wrote a speech and then memorized that speech.  The student dressed up and became their person for the school and later, that night for their family and friends.  The student out did all of their teachers expectations.  They were fabulous!  Congratulations, Fifth Grade, you rocked it!

Mrs. Graves Class Guest

Submitted by susan.bird on

We had a class guest visit on Friday. Hayley Brown is not only a black belt in martial arts, she is also a P.A. in Orthopedics. She taught the kids about medicine, working hard, and how to read x-rays. She also let them listen to their heart and lungs through stethoscopes. It was awesome! Thanks, Hayley, for inspiring us!
