Have a peek inside classrooms at Brookside Elementary as they celebrated Valentine’s Day.  We had fun parties, Mrs. Kim Thompson (Mrs. Stapel grandma helper), relay races, musical hearts, Minute to Win It games, Valentine boxes, finger painting, compliment bags, cookie and candy galore and much, much more.  The students has so much fun!

Teacher Spotlight - Mrs. Mijken Hall

Submitted by susan.bird on

This is Mijken Geniece Hall known as Mrs. Hall.  She works at the special ed, obviously at Brookside and she loves Brookside so so much.  I also got the time to go ask her some questions and she is so nice and funny. If she could have any animals she would have a pug.  She loves wearing her PJs and she thinks she is pretty good at baking. I asked her why do you do what you do and she said, “These students are just as important and they deserve to learn just as everybody else.”  That is so nice.

Buddy Bench

Submitted by susan.bird on

One cool thing Brookside has that some other schools don’t is the Buddy Bench.  I think it’s cool because people who don’t have friends can make friends. The Buddy Bench also makes the people who ask them to play feel good too.  It also makes people look forward to recess. That’s one reason why Brookside is a good school.

Fifth Grade Enrichment

Submitted by susan.bird on

In Miss Bird’s fifth grade enrichment, we worked on problem solving by creating taco trucks.  We started by designing our logo and what our truck would look like. We created menus, took orders and added prices.  Then, we constructed our taco trucks.

Chemical Changes

Submitted by susan.bird on

In Miss Bird’s fifth grade class, we have been talking about chemical changes.  We found out that a chemical change is when ingredients are combined and the result is a completely new substance and that it is not reversible.  We have been doing a few experiments in our class. In one we combined the reactants (ingredients) of water, baking soda, laundry detergent, and vinegar.  The product was that we created a lot of foam. Another experiment was that we grew salt crystals. We combined the reactants of bluing, water, salt and a borax solution.

Congrats to our very own sixth grader, Samantha Rigtrup who was honored as the Utah Valley Student of the Week in the Daily Herald.  Samantha is a great example in our school.  She is on the student council, she works hard and looks out for everyone.  She always has a great attitude and works her hardest in everything she does.  Way to go Samantha!
