Fractions, Fractions, Fractions Everywhere

Submitted by susan.bird on

It seems that fractions are a common theme in math right now.  Mrs.Bird’s class is learning about fractions. Students started adding fractions with the same denominator by making wacky hamburgers for their costumers. Andrews fourth graders practiced composing and decomposing fractions. We were able to do many problems with no paper pencil.  Instead of working we were playing. And, students in Miss White’s fifth grade class practicing fraction multiplication with a review game.

Gratitude

Submitted by susan.bird on

In December, Mrs. Beckert talked with the students about gratitude in our Tiger Pride Assembly.  During that assembly, she gave the students a gratitude challenge. The first and second graders drew a picture about what they were thankful for.  The third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders wrote three things they were grateful for each school day of January. Each day, Mrs.

It’s teacher Tuesday and we are spotlighting Miss Kelly White.  Miss White is one of our great fifth grade teachers. She moved from third grade to teach fifth grade this year.  She is creative, fun, understanding and an excellent teacher. We love having Miss White at Brookside.

On the weekend, Miss White loves to read, relax, or watch a movie.

Engineering in Sixth Grade

Submitted by susan.bird on

Mrs. Crandell's students were innovative this week as they created engineering designs to try and keep ice a solid for 24 hours! They used their knowledge about thermal energy and insulators and conductors to come up with their creative inventions!

She helps kids, teaches lessons, listens, gives advice, helps wherever it’s needed and more.  Mrs. Antonino works as our mentor to our new teachers, but really, to everyone here. This week Mrs. Crandell's class finished their argumentative essays on bugs. We finished by having two cookies one made with cricket flour and some people were even brave enough to try a chocolate cricket, even Mrs. Crandell!
