Learning About Lewis and Clark
Part of the fifth grade social studies core is to learn about westward expansion. We had the opportunity to learn about Lewis and Clark and their journey westward. Mr. Buckley, a professor from BYU shared his knowledge about Lewis and Clark. The students learned things like: what they took with them, the route they took, how they traveled, types of plants and animals they discovered, their relationship with the Native Americans, Sacajawea and much more.

Hanukkah
Throughout the month of December, Mrs. Gulbransen’s class has been learning about the Christmas holiday in different places around the world. Last week, we learned about Israel, and they celebrate Hanukkah. A tradition along with Hanukkah is to play a game called dreidel. Each student made their own dreidel and were able to learn the symbols that went on the dreidel. We then played the game and tried to win the most skittles. It was a blast!
Christmas Fun
‘Twas the day before Christmas break and all through Brookside all the students were stirring in their best Christmas outfit and pajamas, too. In the gym, they all gathered for one last assembly before the winter break. Each class sung a song and joined in a sing-a-long. As we tip-toed away for a long winter’s nap, the PTA gave each boy a girl an orange for their snack. It has been a fun week. We hope each of you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We’ll see y’all in 2019!
Musical Assemblies
This December, we had the opportunity to have to concerts to listen to. We started with the Springville Junior High School. They sang a few of our favorites and we even got to sing along with them. We also heard from Mapleton Junior High orchestra and band. They played a few songs and allowed us to sing some carols with them. Thank you to all who came to share their talents with us.
