Calvin Elder always comes in and gets started on daily tasks without being reminded, Henry Sorensen is so helpful. He jumps at the chance to help those around him. He is funny and friendly, Dominick Mortensen keeps cool under pressure. He helped a kindergartener when they got hurt. He got ice for her and had the office call her mom, Sophie Melendez always gets her work done. Even if she's unsure, she perseveres and tries her hardest, Owen Rich helps Mrs.

Monday Brookside 4th graders had the privilege of a visit from Mrs. Begay and Mrs. Billie with the Title VI Program. We learned how to communicate/sing with our hands and found out that not only democracy, but many of the words and foods we use have a Native American influence. Students loved it and we are ready to start studying Utah's Native American tribes. Thanks for sharing your heritage with us!

November 8th our class participated in a Digital Breakout challenge! It was really fun! We needed collaboration and cooperation to crack the Thanksgiving codes.  Thanks Mr. Peterson

Third grade cereal arrays! Students in Miss White’s class had a blast building multiplication arrays using fruit loops and Cookie Crisp cereal on Friday! What a “cereal-sly” fun (and delicious) way to end the week!

We welcomed some Title VI and Cultural Envoy dancers to our school yesterday. They performed several dances from many different Native American tribes. Students were mesmerized by their costumes, music, and dances. All who attended gained a greater appreciate for the rich heritage of the Native American people. One of the highlights of the performance was watching Brookside Tiger, Ailee K. perform the butterfly dance. Thank you Ailee and all those who shared their talents with us!

All of third grade had fun going on a math scavenger hunt last week! Students searched for picture cards in all three third grade classrooms and answered questions about each multiplication array they found. Way to go third graders!

Brookside Elementary held a special assembly on Monday, November 12, to honor Veterans Day.  We were honored to have several Veterans at the assembly to show our gratitude for their service to our country.  We started with the presentation of the colors, singing the National Anthem, and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.  The Veterans spoke to the the students explaining the meaning behind this important day. The students honored the Veterans by singing, holding up pictures of their relatives who have served and waving flags.

On Friday, Miss Bird’s fifth grade had a special visitor.  Mr. Saybolt is an active member of the US Army. He came and talked to the students about what is means to serve this country.  He talked about his job, he works on the Apache Helicopter. He asked the students questions about the different branches of the military.  He even showed the kids how to do Military style push ups. Thank you so much for your sacrifice and service to this nation! We all appreciate it so much!

In Mrs. Haines class yesterday, they were practicing division before they took their test. Students were split into groups and were given a division problem. The group who all solved the problem correctly were given the chance to bowl. The number of "pins" they knocked down were the number of points they received. Students were so motivated by being able to bowl that they worked together to help their team solve the problem. We're ready for our test now!

We have some students that have been caught doing some amazing praiseworthy acts around Brookside Elementary. Quin Clegg helped a friend get their project ready, Jense Harman helped a friend organize his desk, Nathan Thompson put all the chairs at students desks.
