Brookside Elementary Teacher Appreciation Week May 11th - 15th

Dear Parents,

The PTA would like to honor our teachers and staff members next week, May 11th-15th. This will fit nicely with our activity to give out student belongings and provide an opportunity for students to see their teachers. The original teacher appreciation week was scheduled for the last week in March and things were even crazier then. The PTA did not want this school year to end without letting the teachers and staff members know how much they are appreciated! Here is a Virtual Teacher Appreciation Week flyer from the PTA. I am so grateful for this opportunity to show our staff how much we appreciate them and the work they do to help our students. They are AMAZING and we love them! Thank you to our PTA for providing this opportunity!

Thank you!

Dear Parents,

We are ready to provide a plan for students to come and pick up

their belongings. We tried to take into consideration all the guidelines and variables involved.

We have been asked to create a plan that involves students and parents remaining in their cars to help us adhere to the social distancing guidelines. If students walk and come without a parent

they can still receive their belongings, they will just be encouraged to follow the guidelines.

Here is the schedule for Student Belonging Pick-up:

Tuesday, May 12

8:30 AM-10:30 AM  -- Kindergarten and First Grade

12:30 PM-2:30 PM   -- Second and Third Grade

Wednesday, May 13

8:30 AM-10:30 AM  Fourth and Fifth Grade

12:30 PM-2:30 PM   Sixth Grade

We will have teachers and staff members positioned along the bus zone on the west side of the building. We ask that cars enter the bus zone and stop to talk with the staff member positioned there. If you have several students in different grades and don't want to come during their designated time, you can notify that staff member when you pull up and they will send someone to gather their belongings from their classrooms. Teachers of the assigned grade levels will be positioned along the bus zone so you can drive up to the teacher and she/he will bring the belongings to the car.

School will continue until May 22. For this reason, computer devices that have been checked out from the school will not be collected until the week of Memorial Day. I will be communicating the procedure to return devices as we get closer to that time

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!

Brookside PTA members,

We hope you and your families are all doing well. With the soft closure of schools through the remainder of the school year, our members never got the chance to vote on PTA officers for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. In keeping with our bylaws, we'd like to open up the opportunity for anyone who would like to run for the following positions on the 2020-2021 Brookside PTA board:

President- I am happy to serve as president again next year, but if someone else would like the opportunity they are certainly welcome to run.

Treasurer- Sarah DeLlamas has agreed to serve as treasurer again next year, but again if someone else would like to be treasurer we encourage them to run.

President Elect- This position is open, with an urgent need to fill it. President elect is a "president in training" and would serve as PTA president in the 2021-2022 year. According to our bylaws, next year is the last year I can serve as president, so I would love to take 2020-2021 to train someone and show them the ropes before they become president. This position requires an average of 3-7 service hours a month, many of which can be done from home.

Secretary- This position is open with an urgent need to fill it. The secretary attends all PTA meetings, records the meeting minutes, and sends out meetings agendas and minutes to all PTA members. They also assist with creating and sharing our sign-up genius events throughout the year. This position requires about 1-3 service hours per month, most of which can be done from home.

If you are interested in running for any of the above positions, please contact me via email or text me at 801-830-9826. You are also welcome to nominate people for these positions. It can be a friend or neighbor, someone you've served with in a classroom, or a parent helper that a teacher has been impressed with. Please share your nominations with me, and I can reach out to them about serving.

We will be accepting nominations and candidates through Wednesday May 6th. You'll get an email link the following day on May 7th to vote on next year's board. Normally our bylaws state that we must vote in-person, but due to COVID-19 we have been given permission this year to use survey monkey to hold our votes.

If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. Thank you to each of you for all you do to support Brookside students, teachers, staff, and parents.

Sincerely,

Rachel Cardenas

We Miss Our Brookside Tigers!

Submitted by susan.bird on Wed, 04/29/2020 - 08:59

The teachers at Brookside wanted to let their students know that we love them and we miss them!  We took some time on Tuesday and visited our student to deliver a sign and see our students.  You can see in the pictures how much we miss them and want to be with them. It was so fun to see our kiddos and to visit with them.  But, we were surprised as well.  Our students had signs, posters, air high fives, and gifts for us.  We had a really fun and fabulous time.

We are so grateful for all the parents.  We appreciate everything you are doing. We couldn’t do this without any of you!

We just want our students to know that we miss them. If you missed the video, here is the link.  Please watch it with your kids.  We love and miss you, Brookside!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrfmHbV8bCU&feature=youtu.be

Dear Parents,

We are excited to announce that our “poster forking” activity has been rescheduled. Teachers will be coming around to each house and putting a sign in the yard on Tuesday, April 28th, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Students are welcome to watch for their teachers and wave to them from their porches. We still need to abide by the social distancing guidelines but we are looking forward to connecting with everyone.

We are also working on a plan for students to come and get their belongings. I will send out the final plan on May 4th. We have been asked to wait until after May 1st before putting anything in place to make sure plans align with any new state guidelines.

Thank you to our PTA for making student yearbooks possible this year. Here is some information from the PTA about how to purchase a yearbook if have not done so yet.

We still have yearbooks available for sale for $15 each. During this time Venmo is preferred as a contactless way to pay. Venmo @BrooksidespringvillePTA . Please include student name, grade and teacher as a comment with your payment.

Dear Parents,

With the extension of the "soft closure" through the remainder of the school year, we are working to put a plan in place for students to come and get their belongings. As soon as we decide on the best way to do it and still follow the guidelines of social distancing, I will let you know.

We are so disappointed that the students will not be returning, but we understand the need to make continued efforts to slow the spread of CoVid 19. We will continue to provide online learning experiences for students and I will continue to communicate any additional information as it becomes available.

Again, thank you so much for your support! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!

Parent/Guardian Letter - English

Parent/Guardian Letter - Spanish

April 15, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you may have heard, Governor Herbert and State Superintendent Sydnee Dickson have extended the “soft school closure” until the end of the school year.  Although we are disappointed that we will not be able to work with students in our usual manner, we understand why the decision was made and fully support them.  That being said, we now will need to address a variety of very unique situations.

Our hearts go out to the Senior Class of 2020.  The senior year is a very important part of the K-12 school experience.  Please know that we are exploring ways that we can address issues specific to 12th grade students such as graduation, yearbook signing, grading, credit, etc.   Any suggestions or ideas from parents and students should be sent to their school administration.  You will be receiving more detailed information regarding those events as details are finalized.

There have been questions asked about possible changes to the lunches being served and the current school year calendar.  Please be aware that we will follow the 2019-2020 school year calendar as posted.  The last day of school will be May 22.  Lunches will continue to be served at locations throughout the district.

The goal of Nebo School District and local schools is to continue to provide your student with a quality education through an online curriculum.  Teachers will continue to provide online learning experiences and will be communicating through email or other online platforms throughout the remainder of the school year.  Although these learning conditions are not ideal, we are extremely appreciative of the efforts made by teachers, parents, and students to adjust to this temporary method of instruction.

If you or your student are experiencing difficulties adapting to online learning or are in need of assistance, please reach out to your student’s teacher, counselor, or principal.  There are many resources available for those in need.

Nebo School District and your local schools will continue to communicate with you as we find solutions to the variety of challenges that are being sent our way.  We would like to thank you for your patience and support as we continue to navigate this challenging situation.  We truly believe that by working together, we will be able to successfully complete this school year.

Sincerely,

Scott Wilson

Assistant Superintendent

Did you know that Nebo has an online library?  It's easy to use and acts just like a regular library.  Download the Sora App.  Then all the students need is their username and password that they use for their Chromebooks.  Check out the link below to get started.
