In Social Studies this year, the fifth graders are studying American history. We start by researching explorers that discovered America (usually on accident). The students researched an explorer, finding information that they could use for a talk show. They were acted to write a script for their talk show and then they presented them for their classmates.
Our First Grade activities at Brookside are a great way to start off the year. We had Camping Day and Beach Day in the first week of school. We got to go outside, learn some songs, eat fun snacks, and play games together. It was the perfect way to get to know our teachers and classmates. We can't wait to see what is next!
The 6th graders got their first homework assignment at the open house. They were instructed to fill the puzzle piece with information about them. When they brought them back the following Thursday we talked about how we are all individuals, but together we make up a wonderful class. These were such a fun way to get to know each other.
Mr. Anderson's and Mrs. Jorgensen's second grade classes raised money for the Food and Care Coalition by collecting loose change. The Food and Care Coalition said for every $200 they can buy $500 worth of food. Our classes collect $297. 32. WOW! That means they can buy $750 worth of food. Plus our second graders got lots of practice counting money and learned about service. Thanks to all who donated. We cannot wait to do this fundraiser again this school year.
Dear Brookside Parents,
My name is Jake Roper. I am doing an Eagle Scout Project to benefit Brookside students. I am raising funds to purchase and install two 8’ Buddy Benches.
A buddy bench is a very helpful tool at recess time. If a child cannot find his or her friends, needs a friend, or is new to the school, they can take a seat on the Buddy Bench. The school children will be taught to invite anyone sitting on the Buddy Bench to play with them.
Want to know more about the Buddy Bench? Find out more here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFqxqzI71Ic
This system has been used in many schools and has delivered great results. This is why I want to give this same opportunity to Brookside students.
After the Buddy Benches are installed, at the beginning of the school year, the school children will be educated on how to use the Buddy Benches to make friends and include others.
Fundraising events (held at Brookside Elementary School parking lot):
Tuesday, August 9th, 11 am – 6 pm
Wednesday, August 10th, 9 am – 2 pm
Donations can also be made via a GoFundMe campaign at:
Our goal is to raise $2,000 to cover the cost and installation of 2 Buddy Benches. Any funds donated above the cost of the Buddy Benches will be donated directly to Brookside Elementary School.
